Reflexology
Reflexology is a science which deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, a type of preventative maintenance.
Reflexology, or zone therapy, is the practice of massaging, squeezing, or pushing on parts of the feet, or sometimes the hands and ears, with the goal of encouraging a beneficial effect on other parts of the body, or to improve general health.
There is no consensus on how reflexology does or could work in practice; a unifying theme is the idea that areas on the foot correspond to areas of the body, and that by manipulating these one can improve health through one’s qi. The body contains an energy field, invisible life force, or Qi, the blockage of which can prevent healing. By manipulating these corresponding areas, reflexology can relieve stress and pain in other parts of the body through the manipulation of the feet.
Reflexology also releases a tremendous amount of endorphins (natural pain killers found in the body), the promotion of blood circulation and the lymphatic flow in the body or the dissolving of uric acid crystals.

Neuromuscular Massage
Neuromuscular therapy massage techniques use the thumbs or fingertips to explore tissues in detail. Tense muscles often form bands of muscle fibers even tighter than the rest of the muscle group. These are areas of hypertonicity and ischemia. Neuromuscular therapy is a very specific massage modality, and precise massage therapy releases problem areas that are missed by general massage.
Dana Barthlow, our licensed massage therapist, is certified in NMT.

Hot Stone Therapy
Lava rocks are heated up to 125 degrees and massaged into the skin to relax tense muscles. This modality is combined with therapeutic massage for maximum stress relief and relaxation.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu is a Japanese style massage which literally translates to “finger pressure.” This modality is usually administered “clothes on” or can be utilized through the sheet draping. Shiatsu is a balancing modality and is also good for pain and stress relief. Our licensed massage therapist Dana Barthlow incorporates this modality into most of her massages.
